DUNGEONS:
|
|
We have seen a few dungeons in Vanguard and what we
have seen looks quite promising. Dungeons are varied and
fairly substantial. For example, early on theres is a
level 8 -10 dungeon below a shipwreck in the newbie
lands. Players can get a couple quests on top of the
ship, and then adventure deep underneath, going down and
down to finally get their buns wiped by the Boss mob at
the end. Along the way player encounter a couple named
mobs and get some minor loot. A group is required.
|
| |
|
Many of the Dungeons are immense with various named
mobs scattered about. A good group in these dungeons
results in excellent gameplay and glorious times.

GROUPING:
|
|
Vanguard contains content for both Grouping and Solo
Play. Grouping is required for many dungeons and boss
mobs.
|
| |
|
Players can form groups of up to 6 people and the
Group leader can set a variety of group looting options.
Many buffs are group buffs and last 30 minutes to 1
hour. Players are generally friendly and most groups are
quite effective, even if not optimally populated.
|
| |
|
Unfortunately Vanguard feels like it suffers from a
lack of grouping. Finding a group is quite difficult and
can take hours. For some reason in beta, few people were
LFG and invites were quite rare. Vanguard has standard
LFG tools and even includes the ability for groups to
advertise they need more members (LFM). But alas, this
does not seem to make up for the amount of soloing the
population seems to be doing. Vanguard shall need to
address this shortcoming somehow.

QUESTS:
|
|
Quests in
Vanguard can be excellent. Often they are the lame kill
10 type quests, but a high proportion of the quests are
unique and well made.
|
| |
|
Spoiler:
|
|
For example there is a nice quest in an out of the
way place which has a dead body and 4 people worshipping
it. Coming up form the body is a shaft of light.
|
|
There is no blatant indication there is a quest giver
here, and one must converse with the NPCs to get the
quest. Standing a bit away is a petrified treant.
|
|
It seems that the dead body was once a Druid of high
power. The worshippers wish to know his secrets and one
is willing to sacrifice his life to revive him. If you
accept the sacrifice a ghost floats up from the dead
worshipper and enters the druids dead body. Then from
the body rises a storm cloud complete with lightning and
the Druids ghosts rises forth. This ghost floats over to
the petrified treeant and it animates and attacks. Upon
killing the Treeant the players receive a seed of
knowledge that they give to the worshipping NPCs. The
NPCs are dumbfounded as to why the revived druid
attacked. Just one of the more memorable quests in
Vanguard.
|
|
|
|
Overall the questing is quite good. But there are
thoughts that there are too many quests, which promotes
solo play and reduces down the grouping aspect of the
game. Some quests can be shared amongst group members
who have not yet received the quest, but usually this
sharing attempt fails for various reasons.
